Did you type you email and password in the green login box in the top right corner of the site and clicked on Ya! ? Verify that the Caps Lock key on your keyboard is not pressed because the site differenciates between upper and lower case letters. If you forgot your password, you can get a new temporary password : I forgot my password! Maybe when you filled the registration form, you didn't enter a correct email address. If so, try to register again. You can also verify that your web browser accepts cookies.

If you did fill the registration form, did you get the email that horsetype.com sent you?

In this email, you must click a link to confirm your email address. If you don't click on the link, your registration will not be activated. Note that this message can appear in your Junk or Spam folder, more so if your email is on Hotmail.com (see image below).
I received the registration email sent by horsetype.com, but I can't click on the link.

If you use hotmail, put a checkmark in the square next to the email from horsetype.com and click on the « Not junk » button. Next, check your Inbox. The email will be there and the hyperlink in it will be activated. Click on the hyperlink in the email.

If the link is not activated, you can also copy it manually and paste it in your web browser's address bar.

Are there obligations attached to my registration?

No, you just have to read and follow the Terms of use of horsetype.com.

Do I have to register?

No, you can use most of the site without registering, but to participate (send photos, comment, put a classified ad, etc.) you have to.

I was disconnected automatically!

If you are idle from more than 1 hour, you will be disconnected. You can reconnect by entering your email and password.

Can I prevent the publication of my alias in the list of the last users online?

No. This list is automatically updated and only shows the last 10 users connected.

Problems while registering or connecting?

If you have problems while registering, first verify that your email is still valid. For example, Hotmail.com often deletes email address when they are not used for a while. If you didn't receive the email for your registration and can't connect, write to an andministrator.

How to cancel my registration?

You can't cancel you registration, but after a long period of inactivity, your personnal profile will be deleted, your email set to private, but your comments, forums, photos and articles will remain because other member might have voted on, commented or answered your questions.

What can I do with my points?

For now, points are used to stimulate activity on the site and are not used for anything else. The more you participate, the more points you have.

What can I do when I get an error message saying my photo is too big?

If you get this error message, you have to upload a new lower resolution photo that fits the requirements. To resize a picture, you will need a program, here's one you can use :

How can I resize my photos?

The example below, shows how to resize a photo using Picasa 2. You can do this with other software, but since Picasa 2 is a free software made by Google and is very easy to use, we chose to show you how to resize your pictures with it. To download Picasa 2, click the link in the above blue rectangle.

Follow these steps in Picasa to resize your photo:

Select the photos you what to resize.
- To select all the pictures from a particular folder, click on the folder, hold the « Ctrl » and press « A ». All the pictures will be selected.
- To select one or a few pictures, hold the « Ctrl » and click on the pictures you want to select. Holding the « Ctrl » key, let you select multiple pictures. If you don't hold it, you will ony be able to select 1 picture.
Verify that all the pictures you selected appear in the temporary selection box at the bottom left of the screen and click « Export » in the lower right corner.
In the window that pops up, select the folder where you want to export the resized photos. Select a empty folder if you don't want to accidentally overwrite your file.
You can enter the name of the exported folder in the « Name of exported folder » field. For this example, « resized » was chosen for the folder name.
Modify the size of the image (expressed in pixels). Select the option « Resize to », and select 640 pixels. Select « Normal » from the Image quality drop-down menu, it will keep your filesizes small and will be faster to upload.
Click « OK ». Your photos are being resized and exported in the new folder you specified. You can now upload the resized photos on the website.

Do the photos I upload become property of horsetype.com?

Or course NOT ! The photographer holds the rights to his photos. By uploading a photo, you authorize us to display it on our web site, so other users can see, vote and comment it. We are not responsible if your photo is stolen by someone on the internet. We do our best to protect these pictures and prevent this, but it could happen. That is one of the reasons your pictures have to be resized to fit 640 pixels, it keeps the resolution and quality low, so there is less chance of them being used.

I would like to erase a photo.

To erase a photo, go to your profile, click on « Photos ». You will see all your uploaded photos. Click on « delete » below the photo you want to delete. Once deleted, the photo is gone for good.

I would like to erase one of my videos.

To erase a video, go to your profile, click on « Videos ». You will see all your uploaded videos. Click on « delete » below the video you want to delete. Once deleted, the video is gone for good.

Your profile

Is the information in my profile protected?

Some information is public and some is private. Even if your private information can't be seen by other members, it should not contain sensitive information like you date of birth, your address, your social security number, etc.

Can I modify my profile?

Yes. You only can modify your profile and at any time. If you modify information in your profile, your Photo for example, it will change everywhere on the site.

Forum

Can I edit or delete a subject?

No. Once posted, a subject can't be modified or deleted because other members may comment it.

Can I edit or delete a comment on a subject?

Yes. A comment on a subject can be modified or deleted if your are the author of the comment and you are logged in.

Can I write hyperlinks in the forum?

You can write hyperlinks, but they won't be clickable. Other users will see the link and will have to copy it in their web browser to visit the site.

Can I modify the style of my text in the forum (bold, italic...)?

No, you can only use plain text.

What are the orange bubbles in the forum next to subjects I commented?

The subjects you commented are identified by these symbols:

See the table below for the codes you must write in your comments. Those codes will automatically be replaced by the corresponding smiley once your comment is posted.

Classifieds

Can I delete a classified ad?

You can deactivate a classified ad. To do so, click on your profile in the menu, click the red Deactivate button next to your ad. The ad will dissapear from the listing but stay in your profile until it is automatically deleted by the system at a later time.

Can I modify the style of my text in a classified ad?

No, the style can't be modified.

Can I modify the text of my classified ad?

No, you can't directly modify the text of your ad, but if you must do so. You can Deactivate your ad from your profile and place a new free ad with the new text. The deactivated ad will not show in the listing and be deleted automatically by the system at a later time.

Can I modify the price of my classified ad?

Yes, you can change the price of your ad by clicking the red Edit button that appears next to your ad, in your profile.
